National Association of Foreign-Trade Zones – A Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) is a secured area physically located within a country, but legally considered foreign soil for customs purposes, and therefore treated as part of international commerce. The purpose of an FTZ is to attract and promote international trade and commerce by providing a means for importers to reduce or eliminate the payment of import duties. The benefits of operating in a Foreign Trade Zone are primarily the reduction or elimination of the payment of U.S. Customs duties or excise taxes on goods imported into the United States.
