Mesa’s K-12 Education Advantage

Mesa offers a strong K-12 education environment that supports both family relocation and long-term workforce development. The city is home to 32 A-rated schools, as designated by the Arizona Department of Education, and 17 A+ Schools of Excellence recognized by the Arizona Education Foundation. Four school districts and the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) serve Mesa, giving students access to diverse academic options and career-connected training. Mesa Public Schools serves the largest portion of the city, while Gilbert Public Schools, Higley Unified School District, and Queen Creek Unified School District each serve portions of southeast Mesa. These districts also post average ACT and SAT scores above both state and national averages, reinforcing Mesa’s reputation for educational quality.

Mesa Public Schools

Mesa Public Schools (MPS) is an award-winning district recognized nationally for student achievement in academics, sports, creative and performing arts, and career and technical education. As the largest school district by student enrollment in Arizona, MPS educates more than 50,000 students in 82 schools and programs. MPS also offers special programs to meet the needs of every learner, including back-to-basics, Montessori, International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement (AP), and online learning. Mesa also boasts a biotech academy and a Health & Medical Sciences Academy.

Gilbert Public Schools

Gilbert Public Schools (GPS) operates 43 schools, including 11 located in Mesa. Known for strong academics, broad program choice, and high district performance, GPS has earned an “A” grade from the Arizona Department of Education.

 

Higley Unified School District

Higley Unified School District (HUSD) covers a portion of southeast Mesa. HUSD has 16 schools and has consistently received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education.

Queen Creek Unified School District

Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) serves students in southeast Mesa and continues to grow, with approximately 14,000 students across 18 schools. The district has earned an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education and has consistently ranked among the best districts in Arizona.

East Valley Institute of Technology

East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) provides high school and adult students with hands-on, advanced skills and training in more than 50 occupation-specific programs, from digital animation and aviation to high-tech manufacturing and STEM-related pathways. EVIT is Arizona’s first Joint Technological Education District, a public school district that serves students from 11 East Valley school districts. EVIT has three campuses, with two located in Mesa—one on Main Street in west Mesa and one near Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in southeast Mesa.

Ninety-five percent of EVIT students graduate from high school. On average, 91% of EVIT’s high school and adult students are placed in jobs related to their training, college, or the military within a year of completing their program, and two out of three EVIT students go on to college.
